we the kings.. we the shirts.

November 20, 2008

last night at the WTK and The Academy show, I saw a ton of fans wearing those band's shirts. which makes me happy (fbr got monies!) but at the same time, sad. have concerts changed for the teen set that much?

concert etiquette 101 teaches you to NOT wear the shirt of the act that you are seeing. doesn't everyone know this? you can tryyy to be funny and ironically wear of someone in a completely different genre (ie, a Slipknot shirt to a Faith Hill show), or go the more common route- get a shirt from an obscure-but-trendy-band and wear that, so it looks like you have more musical knowledge than the FUSE-loving crowd that is surrounding you.

but to wear the shirt of the act you are singing along to? Fashion faux pas... or have the times just changed?

I think the general etiquette should be to stop being so critical of what other people do, wear, think, say, etc at shows. I'm sick of being a part of it, and of seeing it. New years rez #2453523 is to change my way of thinking toward others based on outward appearance. Lets see how far I can get without being a hypocrite.
Wear what you want to wear to a show ...be that a T-shirt of the band you're seeing, a T-shirt of some obscure band that will unfortunately never see the light of day, a plain T-shirt, a T-shirt with a panda on it, a T-shirt with a wolf howling at the moon, a dress, silver spandex...whatever. and hope the hipster next to you doesn't glare at you like you're an alien when you dance to a pop song.

And to continue on the "times changed" comment...no, not really. Rewind back to being a teenager at a pop show, because I know you were one. The bands you are seeing are the boybands of today. The people you see in the bands' T-shirts are the teenies, or fangirlies, or whatever you want to call them. They are buying the merch and wearing it to the FBR show just like *NSYNC or BSB fans did in '99.

Wow. Long comment. And probs sounds like I'm trying to start something, when in reality, just gettin it out there that it's okay to be a teeny if you have to...even if you try to cover it with an FBR band. ...or soemthing. kshuttingup
Adele Connolly said: don't take it that seriously Cabo :) I was merely commenting on something that many concertgoers abide by.. not wearing the t-shirts of the band you're seeing. i saw it at the Kings of Leon show as well.. its not just a teenybopper thing. and yes i was a teenager at a pop show but no, i never wore the act's shirt :) those are for bedtime.

Amanda Stephan said: i lvoe this. i want to smack every person i see wearing a bands tshirt at their show. just for good measure. i may do it next time i see a kid do it. just smack them.
