The Highs are the Lows are the Highs

June 27, 2008

The Bali sky shed a golden tear into the ocean.  A boat kite is dancing on the daylight's departure, as the water glows with fire.... those waves that quench the sand.  And I'm at peace.  It sometimes takes 364 days to get just one to stand still, but if there is any one, this might be it.  And I certainly feel no bigger than the sand, as I'm illuminated by a divine creation... this is the ultimate museum, a museum of glowing love, and I'm completely humbled, and in the process feel as if I'm standing on top of the world... on top of something.  I hope I can put this feeling into a melody and words when I return.

It's an end to an adventure.  It's the beginning to a possible freedom.  The band spent five years to grow musically to play shows like the ones we did on this tour.  I, for the first time in awhile, felt like we were represented as the band we wanted to be, a rock and roll band playing catchy songs.  Five dudes that love to create and play together.  We were blessed with an opportunity to share our spirits for 120 minutes in a fury, and like the moment when the sun touched the ocean, our five souls communicated musically the finest yet, and shared moments with those around us.  I can't thank everyone enough, whether you got to see this tour or not.  If you have supported us at any given time, and any given place, thank you.  Thank you for getting us here.  Thank you for listening... and now, we attempt to grow.  It's our duty to progress.

And now... we create.  We tell a story.  We're leaving one of the most heightened experiences to return to many unanswered questions.  Back to the fight on the home turf.

But maybe these are just the things to make one stronger.  To make us even more insane about doing what we love to do.

So when they say no....

...we're telling them

yes.

We, whether you think we're crazy or not, cannot give up.

If this is indeed a free country, then maybe our freedom from the red taped up industry will allow a resurrection.  Whether people listen or not is beyond me, but we're ready to fight the fight.  Again.  Why?  Because we just saw and felt something magical, and no one in a suit and tie can sit here and tell me "it won't work."  Whether people will give it a chance or not is beyond me, but there is no use in not delivering the substance to be judged.  If something's there, something's there, and you have to act on it.  This last tour was confirmation that something is there.

Now... to spread the love.

Peace.

B

ps - My addiction to Bali has me fleeing to the Cape today to write... can you surf out there??

Penny Lane said: i think...you have yet to find a sound that reflects your musicality and defines you not just as a band, but as serious musicians (from Berklee, no less). looking forward to hear you grow on the third album. :)

Nickie said: Hey Ben, I know just how you feel. The moment I touch down in Bali, I'n hit by the eager warm smiles of Bali folks saying "Hello! Welcome to Bali." and "How are you?" Their warm welcomes feed my jet-laggedness (is that how you spelt?) with a renewed sense of strength. While walking down the streets, I see women with young kids on the streets begging for extra money to feed the young ones. I'm so blown away by the sight of this one particular young lady with a baby stuck to her chest. The baby's crying and she hold out her hand asking for loose change. My heart stop in my throat. I hand over some money and the smile that lit up her face says it all. I feel better knowing that I've made someone's day a little bit better. It also makes me realize no matter how different our skin colors, religions & cultures may be, we're still make of flesh and blood. Beneath every person's skin, there's a rush of humanity just waiting to blossom and help those in need. If we don't help each other out, who will? I splurge out on surfing lessons. The ocean beckon me over and my friendly Balinese instructor show me the ropes. Once I get in the water and my instructor tell me to paddle in deep,, I panic. From old memories of nearly drowning when I was a kid. My instructor promise me he'll always be my side and as I struggle to take my first stand on a surfboard, I fall over. I'm ready to give up but his words of encouragement push me further. I'm truly on top of the world when I managed to stand up for a full 10 seconds before my body plop back down into the cool sea. Seeing you at the Hard Rock Cafe is a pleasant surprise. It's great to hear you surf too. But one thing, I'm sure you're a pro at it more that I can ever be. B, the next time I'm heading down to Bali, you have to come along & teach me how to surf. =) Peace, Nickie
Nickie said: Now Ben.. like you said.. time to create. Creating every day can be tired but we're all 110% behind you. Inspiration is all around us. If you just take the time to slow down and take a breather. Everyone need some play in their lives too. =) x0x0, Nickie
Becky said: That was deep; almost inspirational. That's the kind of blog/'advice' that should be applied to everyone in everyday life. If you feel it, go for it. Don't let anyone tell you no. What's the worst that will happen? So what if you fail or don't get what you want, at least you tried and you don't have to live with that 'what if' looking over your shoulder. With an ending of something, only a begining can be to come. If it doesn't end, God bless you.
Jade said: Sometimes somebody writes something that you don't read trying to understand them, but read and identify with yourself. Sometimes when you try over and over again to express something and just can't get it right, someone else comes along and gives the words to you. Amen.
Gennine said: I really respect you and the other four members of tc5. When your popularity was starting to wind down in the USA, you made something of yourselves overseas. You've inspired more people than you probably know, including myself. Thank you. :)
Jasmine said: It was filled with deep feelings of yours, and something that everyone should have in their daily life. You're now back on track, writing songs and tuning them with the guys. I believe you guys will really deserve something for the hardwork and efforts. It'll be coming down your way. Trust the fans, trust us, you're more than amazing, as always... Have a great day
Becca said: Well, well it has been a long time since I have visited this site. Ben, you always write so beautifully. Your writings move me in a way that words can't adequately express. I always feel hopeful when I come and read what it is you have written. You have a wonderful way with words. Your descriptions of the sunset in Bali kissing the ocean were just beautiful. I have only witnesses such an experience once. I am going to New Mexico next week, it's not Bali but it will do and when my plane lands and my feet touch the ground, I will be listening to see if I am greeted with same feelings of loveliness and beauty that you felt while you were in Bali. I am glad you had a wonderful time in Bali and even happier that you and the guys feel as if you are on a wavelength all your own. I can assure you that I personally have never seen the five of you this happy. You excude such passion and emotion when you play together onstage. The experience is often surreal and often times I feel as if I need a second show to catch anything I might have missed before. I'm glad you're in a peaceful place and even gladder that you are back in the states again. And as long as there is a fight to be fought I plan on being a part of the battle. Or the war which ever is more appropriate. Love always.
Elizabeth said: hey ben! its so nice to read another journal entry again =) i'm glad you had fun on your tour and i'm so happy it was a positive influence to keep you going with your music and tc5. we need you too, just like you need us. the thanks goes both ways. thank you for not giving up, for putting all you have into your music and into the band, thank you for being so wonderful to us... it means a lot. with every show i see and every track i play, i swear, i become more and more addicted to your music. we'll always be there for you, joe, joey, ethan, and kyle... no matter what =) p.s.- the cape is nice... scituate beaches are amazing, however. (not really a lot of surfing though lol) peggotty beach is somewhat small but has a beauty of its own. (esp. when the sun is setting) also- everyone here in the boston area misses you! i def. think you should do a summer show soon... that would be awesome =) (cafe 939 was a blast btw!) take care until i see you again!
