Life is good today...

October 15, 2009

Do you ever have those days where everything seems to go right? You finally feel like you are right where you need to be?

I love them!!

I had the privilege of playing at the Legendary Walt Aldridge last night! As he was singing "Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde" I was having flashbacks of me at 16 years old.... convertible top down... driving past Richmond on I-95 and singing at the top of my lungs...

"well its a long way to Richmond, heading North on 95".... lala

haha its funny how life turns out! I am so humbled by the people that came out last night... there was a line around the building and I can't believe that people would stand outside a window in the rain to hear us perform! Yall are amazingggggggg

Then I got to see some of my favorite people from SCC Radio.. and they squeezed me in for the 9:00 show and I got to hear some of the best singer/songwriter music I have seen in a while.. Dave Barnes, Steve Moakler, Drew Holcomb, and Tim Schurrer.. you guys were inspiring! I need to go write now!

I also found out I get to hang out with Beth Neilson Chapman this weekend at Vanderbilt's Observatory for a songwriting camp! wahoo... thank you Stargaze for sponsoring me!

But the BIG NEWS is.... (drum roll please :D)

.....

....

IM GOING TO FRANCE!! ... at the end of January I will be attending MIDEM (the largest music industry conference in the world) . And get this, I am the only country music artist going! WHAT??!?!? I know! ITs really nuts... but I am so grateful for the opportunity and I cant even comprehend what will come out of it.

That being said.. I am putting together a kick-A EP and all this is happeneing really fast... I pray that I can appreciate every moment!!

Keep checking back for updates... the ride is just beginning :)

Love God. Love Yourself. Love Others... Love Music :)

wow! Its been a long time... way too long to be exact! since the last blog ALOT has happened!!!

Its crazy how much you can do when you put your mind to it and you just jump right  in trust that things will work out. In March I decided to quit my job and focus on my career and wow how much things have changed!

In April I went to Vegas for the ACM's and had the time of my life!!! I met so many amazing people... i never thought that Gary from Rascal Flatts would offer to be making me drinks haha Taylor and I at the ACM's

The next weekend I went and hosted a show choir competition in Virginia and got to play for 1500 high schoolers! I was a huge show choir junkie in school and it was awesome to be able to go home and show them what they could be doing in 4 years!Felicia and I at the Southernmost point

The drive home from Key West was my 22nd birthday.. I was sun-poisoned and my face was peeeling off BUT Scott and Felicia surprised me with a make-shift gas station birthday cake, made out of a hunny bun and M&M's.

my 22nd bday cake :)

I came back to Nashville ready to write!! Since then, I have written 20 more songs and have been a writing machine! Thank you Key West!

At the end of May we went out on a 10 day tour to Oklahoma and Dallas. I love all of my Okies! yall rocked!!

In June my little sister graduated High Schoo and my cousin Kim got married!l! Woo Hoo!! then we went to Ohio to play some shows, my thanks go out to Dick and Vickie for everything!!

July flew by like the wind! We rang in July 4th at a pool party that happened to be at the same place that Steve McNair was killed. RIP Steve. We found ourselves surrounded by police, reporters and Titans fans. Then the monsoon came and we got DRENCHED! Thank goodness we already had our bathing suits on!!

A couple days later I went to Disney world for a family Vacation.. fully equipped with a mini van. courtesy of my mom <3

On July 16th, I had the amazing opportunity to play at the BLUEBIRD! AHHH it was a dream come true. Every songwriter aspires to play there and I am so thankful that I had an opportunity this early in my career.

I also have a manager now..his name is Art and he rocks more than I do! Good things are on the horizon.

August is only 10 days old and we got to kick it off last weekend while raising some money for Autism Speaks. Rock the Walk was a huge succes and I'm so thankful I was apart of it!!

.. SO all that aside.. here I am today.. shopping through my favorite thrift store in Nashville (Southern Thrift) and I stumble across this awesome shirt.. its by a company called FaithConnextion (www.faithconnexion.com).. the back says

"Keep The Faith"

The power of hope is strong,Give all around you without wanting anything back. Love the others as you love yourself.Love yourself to love others, Keep on rising.  You have strong wings of eagles. Dont forget them .. You'll lose them. Look for them theyll find you.

This made me take a look back on the past few months and made me realize how AMAZING God is and how powerful faith is. The opposite of faith is fear, and if we live life in fear how can we make anything happen? Live in Faith. Keep it.

Hello from Brinn :)

March 30, 2009

Welcome to the crazy world of Brinn-Heather Thomas Black…(yes thats my full name if you were wondering) haha.. anywho..

I am SO excited to be apart of the One Love and am so thankful for the opportunity to give back!

Before I start going Blog Crazy, you should probably know a little bit about myself..

I am 21 years old, I’m a Taurus (May 4th, 1897)..I’m from the small town of Chester Va. I was born in Miami Florida and lived there ’till I was 8. Although Miami is great, Chester is my home. You don’t really appreciate growing up there until you leave. That little place within the 9 mile diameter gets stir crazy, BUT when you leave you really do miss all the wonderful things you can only do at home.

I moved to Nashville when I was 18 and started writing songs (Thanks to Jade and Cassie). I completely fell in love with it and realized It was a passion I never knew I had. I always wanted to move to Nashville and be a singer, thinking I’d sing other peoples songs. I was wrong. 3 months after I moved here I wrote my first song and was changed forever! In the past 3 years I have recorded and released an EP, and had my songs played all over the US and even in Belgium! I would have NEVER dreamed that all this would happen like it has but I am so thankful that it has!

I am constantly writing and working my butt off.. I cant express how much I love my friends and family for being so flexible with my schedule. They are quite amazing!

My ultimate goal in life is that I can impact the world of one person through my music. Everything after that is an added bonus. Music was my refuge growing up and if I can help change someone’s life for the better in any way… I have succeeded in my book.

Aside from the music. I am a pretty normal girl. I have a good head on my shoulders (if I do say so myself :D)
I loooove traveling. One of my goals in life is to hit every 50 states by the time I am 28.. I’ve got 26 so far.. not bad huh?

I also love shopping.. sale shopping to be exact. Vintage and thrift stores are my weakness. Caroline thinks that stores must know before I come in because I always find the coolest stuff! I think I just need to teach her how to dig through sale racks better :)

I have such an amazing family. We have some crazy stories but we love each other more than anything and thats all that matters. My mom and my grandma are my heros. I hope one day I will be half the women they are!

I have a a son.. his name is Thurman.. and he’s a dog. haha he’s half maltese and half shitzhu and I am obsessively in love with him. He is a miracle in himself <3

I am a hopeless romantic, but I write alot of songs about breakups. I think all songwriters have to be hopeless romantics in some way. If it weren’t for us sappy people, there would be no love songs out there!

I have these moments.. we like to call them “Brinn-isms”.. for example.. one time I accidently threw my cell phone off of a balcony during a play at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.. and it almost hit an old lady in the head.. yeaaahhh stuff like that happens all the time to me, so ill keep you posted!

Overall, Im just a girl from a small town in Virginia that loves life and everything about it. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, good or bad, we all learn from it!

Keep checking back for more words from yours truley. The life of Brinn Black gets a little rediculous sometimes but its all in good fun!
