Oh, that's the blues...

I havent been so addicted to a single CD in a long time.  I usually listen through, and enjoy pretty much everything i listen to but I'm also very aware of the fact that there is just so much i haven't heard and I'm always trying to get to the next CD.  I just got my hands on a whole bunch of old blues, and "King of The Blues" by Albert King, which I'm guessing is a best of, has been on repeat on my ipod for days.  I just havent wanted to listen to anything else.  When I'm home and my ipod is in the car, I've been listening through all of Buddy Guy's recordings, as well as Robert Johnson and more, and its amazing.  It feels good to finally get it.

I always understood the blues in it's position at the root of modern jazz and rock, but I never really got into it.  i find that alot of times for me it's hard to turn off the musician in my head and just listen.  I'm always taking things apart and figuring out how theyre doing it while i listen, but when it comes to these blues greats, there is no illusions, and there's nothing to take apart.  I can just sit back, enjoy the lyrics, and the sheer virtuosity of the playing..... without my stupid mind getting in the way.  i love it.
