And the static singes the speakers like a thousand hymns of inspiration
March 28, 2009
I just got home from Butch Walker.
I think it's safe to say he is well-liked on The One Love, to put it lightly.
If you haven't checked him out yet, PLEASE do so now. You won't regret it. and if you do regret it...please come talk to me, and I'll point you to the right songs for your musical preference type.
I don't even care if you buy his stuff - and neither does he. hahaha After 2 songs (he started out mellow and made me cry with the first note...no joke), he grabbed the mic, and told everyone about his sort-of-new CD Sycamore Meadows. He asked if everyone had it yet, then continued on to say "I don't care how you got it - bought it, burned it, downloaded it, found it, listened to it in a friend's car - I don't care, just as long as you have it so you can know the words to sing along at our shows!" - And I fell in love all over again.
I was surprised when he didn't place 'Mixtape', 'Lights Out', '3 Kids in Brooklyn', 'Bethamphetamine'...basically nothing from the Lets Go Out Tonites or his self-titled...and no Marvelous 3 (strange).
I cried 4 times... Once during "ATL", once during "Passed Your Place, Saw Your Car, Thought Of You", once during "Don't Move", and a final time during "Closer to the Truth And Further From the Sky" - all for different reasons. I know a song truly touches me when it can make me sad when I'm beyooooond happy, when it can make me dance when I'm tired, when it can make me cry because I love it so much...Love <33333
I LOVE that Butch makes his shows not about HIM - but about the music, and what it means to the people in the crowd. It's just as much my show as it is the guy in front of me's, the girl standing in the back's, the drummer's, the bartender's...EVERYONE in the room is a part of the show. Everyone in that room is there for a reason, and the show is all about and all for everyone in that room. I stopped counting after the 4 times Butch completely turned the mic stand around so the microphone faced the audience - not him. It was our time to sing along to all the songs we loved together - for whatever reason we love them.
My favorite part of Butch's live show is at the very end...every time (at least every time I've seen him), he leaves the stage, and steps right into the crowd to sing.

Terrible photography skillz from the cell phone...but Perfection.
The icing on the cake was "Tiny Dancer". I was expecting it thanks to some posts here on TOL - but still smiled, danced, and mouthed along to the words :)
I can't waaaaait till the next time he comes to town. He owes me "Ships in a Bottle" and a "Lights Out".
In other news - I'm ready for 2 more days of silence...I'm beginning to go insane...Anyone have suggestions for something I can do this weekend that will not require speaking/vocal noises of any kind? Please share! Thankssss and go see Mr. Walker when you get a chance :)

Butch is <3. I fell in love with his music when I saw the live performance of 'take tomorrow(one day at a time)' on youtube. I have this whole dream of joining the work and travel program in the states and catch his live show, by hook or by crook.
