Lucky number 7 (free music download!!)

October 13, 2008

7 years ago this week was when my band East 146 officially formed.  It was fall break and we had a whole week off from school.  Devin (our drummer), and I had been jamming with some friends in school for a few months and we had just saved up enough money to buy our own sound system.  We ordered it from Musicians Friends and we were patiently awaiting for it to arrive.  My parents were going on vacation that week and I was going to have my house to myself for the first time.  I was just 16 at the time.

Rewind.

The week before fall break, I had recorded myself singing "Be like that" by Three Doors Down for some reason, with an acoustic guitar, and I sent it to Devin.  I really don't know why this happened, but the outcome came to us kicking out the other two band members (the singer and bass player) and recruiting our friend Chris Cross (yes, Christopher Wayne Cross) to pick up the bass.  I remember the AIM conversation with Devin with him pretty much saying that I should be the singer, after he heard me singing Be Like That. So we told the other two guys that I was going on vacation with my parents and would be gone the whole week, so we could have a week with just the three of us to try it out in privacy, and without stirring up drama.

It was perfect.  This time of year in Kentucky is absolutely gorgeous.  You can see your breath at night, the sky is clear and you can see every star.

Imagine having this backyard to hang out in... my back yard (This is the view from my house down south)  We spent alot of time on this deck actually....

I remember I was at the house waiting for Devin and Cross to get home from Waffle House.  When they got to my house, they said we are going to call ourselves "East 146" because they both had to drive East on Highway 146 to get to my house.  It just made sense.

We started playing cover songs and we wrote our first song entitled "Don't Leave", I believe on Tuesday the 16th.  You can download it here. (Right Click/Save Target as...)  Not too shabby for a bunch of 16 year olds.  This particular recording we did when we were 17.  Anyhoo.

I've had a blast these past 7 years and I don't think I would change much of anything, and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Now I'm really tired and I am going to goto sleep.

Happy Monday!!!!
