What's up ya'll
My first blog here! Woo hoo! Sorry for the delay. Since I've joined The One Love I've been crazy busy in rehearsals getting ready for my next tour! Super psyched for it but more about that later.
Since it's my first blog and all I figured I'd tell ya a little about myself..
I'm Matt and I am a guitarist from NYC, raised on Long Island (yes, I was bridge and tunnel once...once! haha) but have been in NYC for a few years now, no matter where I've been in the world there will never be a place like New York, ANYWHERE! As you can see underneath my picture, I've been extremely fortunate to have played with a lot of different artists. When some people ask me "so you've played with this person and now you play with this person?" and they seem a little confused. I always tell them it's like having all sorts of friends you hang out with that have different tastes and interests but we all seem to share this one thing in common that brings us together and that's what I love about what I do. Not only do I get to make music with these people I get to be friends with them as well and I guess that's what makes me feel especially fortunate, or maybe it's just because I'm a Libra :) (that's what we do..haha)
A few weeks ago I had the honor of meeting some incredibly cool people (Jade& Cassie!) at my local "rocker" hangout joint downstairs from my apartment (which btw I'm there WAYYY too often.. hahaha) and they went on to tell me about their website called TheOneLove.org and they asked if I would like to blog for it. Normally I get yelled at all the time from people about why I'm never on myspace/facebook, blogging, writing messages, blah blah blah...it's not cause I don't want to it's really just cause by the time I'm on there and have starred at a million pics of someone's b-day party from the week before I'm usually over it and don't feel like writing anything, but when they told me about it supporting a charity well then that was what really got me into it. I have always felt really strong about charities and try to donate as much as I can...with The One Love, being able to pick a charity that I feel strongly about was just icing on the cake for me. "The Make a Noise Foundation" is a charity formed by guitarist Steve Vai that helps bring/keep music in our schools, you see before I started performing full time, I taught guitar to all walks of life… everyone from 6 year old kids to retired police officers and everyone in between, a lot of the high school age kids used to tell me that there was never enough music education going on at there school and in some cases I was the only one pretty much teaching them anything about music… that's crazy to me!! Anyway, I know it's not like that in all schools especially not mine, so I feel really strong about keeping music going forever ...for me..I swear if I hadn't had music in high school like theory, jazz, band, singing lessons, and friends who were into learning music as well..I WOULDN'T BE HERE!! Doing what I love that is..so I'm glad I can do my part even if it's a small part for now anyways..
So I'm going back on tour!!! Love it! Can't wait this time...so in addition to playing with as my people as I could possibly meet..haha...I'm proud to be a part of a fantastic band called God or Julie...we've pretty much have been on tour off and on for about the last year or so in support of our debut record "This Road Before" here's the myspace link for you guys to check out: www.myspace.com/godorjulie
We're heading out this time with super cool bands, Aiden and Civet...can't wait to meet them. I've heard nothing but great things about the guys in Aiden and after checking out Civet's myspace page I cannot wait to see them live…these ladies ROCK!!!
I'll post the dates here as well and hopefully you guys can come say hi at one of the shows :)
Until next time...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
