HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAY!!

March 16, 2009

Just a quick shout out to the girl who introduced me to blogging on TOL, shares my passion for football, music and of course, bought my Torres drawing ^^

Have a great one! ;)

Tinted Windows

February 22, 2009

"Fans of great power pop can rejoice. A number of top purveyors of the genre are coming together to form a pop "super group" of sorts and Hitfix has exclusive details about recording plans.

Tinted Windows is Hanson vocalist Taylor Hanson, Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger, former Smashing Pumpkins' guitarist James Iha and Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos"

I am still high from this piece of news. :D

9-5

February 05, 2009

I was doing almost 9 to 11 hours of training (per week) for a dance competition just a couple of months back. I would go to college in the morn, go home in the early evening, grab an hour's nap and drive to the baby-daycare-centre-cum dance studio. I was having so much fun feeling all occupied and busy....

..till I started my internship.

I am now so hyperactive and fidgety that being stuck onto a swivel chair from 9-5 is IMPOSSIBLE. And I don't smoke so I don't take ciggie breaks like some people do. I was desperate for a solid reason to take a walk or two!

So... I came up with this silly idea of drinking up to 4 mugs of water per day and then rival my best friend's loo trips record. -__-'

4 Dinners and a Lunch

February 04, 2009

That's what you get during the festive period. Chinese New Year dinners with an average of 6 to 8 courses each (waaaay too much food) and lunches packed with everything from abalone to venison. You've seen pics from Chris' page so yeah. They do taste as good as they look.

A pic from the reunion dinner.

Breaking the usual tradition of playing with firecrackers. Bubbles are less noisy and less harmful to the environment. Plus, my neighbours dogs won't bark as much.

Photobucket

Mahjong!!!

Gramp's birthday. That's me behind him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Photobucket

And the awesome thing about his birthday would be- the cakes. I don't know whether do you get jelly cakes out there but here's one complete with ev erything felicitous in a chinese sense. Koi fishes, peaches and what not.

Photobucket

..and of course. The panda-with-creepy-eyes cake.

*burp*

Will be bringing 2 of those pandas to the office tomorrow.

ps: Liverpool 2 -0 Chelsea HELL YEAH!

Selamat Tinggal 2008

December 31, 2008

"Dua Kosong Kosong Lapan."

That's 2 0 0 8 in Malay. Thank goodness I memorised the multiplication table in Chinese. Can you imagine how hard it would be saying "Sembilan Darab Dua Belas ialah Seratus Lapan" for 9x12=108!  9 syllables more than the chinese version!!!

Right I am babbling.

It's already two hours past the countdown in Kuala Lumpur. Watched the firework displays (some too early, some too late, and none at the stroke of 12) from the top of a hill with a few friends. Good to know that the country can still afford to burn things in the air. Yippee? Funnily enough, I wasn't really enthral led by the sight of sparks bursting in the dark sky... but the noise it made. The low but extremely loud rumble. Now that sounded nice. Ahhhhh. (No I do not have a fetish for snores.)

I've got nothing fancy to blog about, really. One thing's for sure though, I am going to miss writing "2008" in the date section when I fill in forms.. especially '08 in my paintings. The number 8 has always been one of my favourtie numbers (nope, not for the chinese feng shui sake) It is such a beautiful, double-loop thing to sign off with. Tee hee.

Well it has been a great year and I wish everyone at TOL and its readers the best in their careers, good health, lots of love and much fun!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

I love...

November 26, 2008

I love Patrick Wilson.

;true" width="425" height="344">

Anyhoos, my group and I have spent the last 3 days selling food where 30% of the profits would go to the local Breast Cancer Welfare Association funds. Gonna give out pink ribbons on Friday! Weee!!!

I sold an artwork! YAY!

November 15, 2008

I am baaaaaack!!!

So sorry for the lack of updates. Been swimming in a sea of deadlines and living on 3 hours of sleep per day for the past 2 weeks. It's almost over so pheeew!

Anyhoos, I sold my first ever artwork. It's a pencil portrait of Fernando Torres which I did back in early January. You have no idea how friggin' happy I am right now lol. Like..there are actually people who like my work? o_O

:D

I'll miss it but I know May will take good care of it!

Photobucket

Right? ;)

I AM BUSY!!! :D

November 01, 2008

So, I've been working- one doesn't exactly use the term "study" in my design course- my bumbum off for the past few weeks over the simplest of assignments. I mean, how worked up can one get over 3 comic strips, a name card and a couple of coins?

I'd just realised that sometimes, it's all about the frame of mind you are in which decides what you do.. and probably how well you pull it off.

One switch of mentality and you'd find yourself making the best out of each and every minute.

Instead of saying "I am busy" and feeling pity for yourself, why not "I enjoy keeping myself busy"?

I sooo enjoy graphic design. *bigFAKEgrin*

Btw, is there a reason why Nicholas Cage is the ONLY actor I know in "Bangkok Dangerous"?

I'm Wisheeeeeeng~

October 30, 2008

Well when was the last time you heard this?

Confession: I am actually terrified of this song.

I love Dragon Ball <3

October 28, 2008

I watched quite a number of animes as a kid. Notably Sailormoon (extremely bimbotic, but it taught me how to draw), SlamDunk, some chacha something but only one stuck with me for a VERY long time- Dragon Ball.

Probably it's the life lessons I get from watching Dragon Ball that made the series so unforgettable. Pint-sized kids with monkey tails whacking the crap out of 30 foot ogres and stuff. NEVER. GIVE. UP. Treat every obstacle as an exciting adventure! :) It's all about optimism.

Anyway, I'd just painted this one of a grumpy Vegeta carrying the birthday gifts for a BIG Dragon Ball fan. HAPPY BIR THDAY CAROL!!!

Dance, people. DANCE!

October 19, 2008

I am not exactly a very fit person seeing that I was outran a couple of times by the heaviest girl in high school. Some guys who knew me well once placed bets on it. I am still very offended lol.

Buuut...I take dance classes weekly. As hard as it is to drag myself off the bed every Sunday morning for a session of 300 crunches, leg lifts and 30 minutes of cardio before dancing my butt off... I have to say I really enjoy it. Dance is a very good way to interpret music. Sometimes, by watching others dance, I start to see some songs in a different perspective. Screw words and long explanation -just watch.

In class, we do a whole range of dances like jazz, hip hop, latin or we just fuse them all together. This time around, I had to do a lyrical piece to "Breathless" by Shayne Ward and trust me, I would rather be popping around than holding a pose and stretching as gracefully as possible without looking like a teapot balancing on a chopstick. Slow songs are the hardest in my opinion. :(  But dancers can't be picky. LEARN EM ALL!

There was this one part in the chorus where we had to go down in a split, then do a 360 skaters spin on the bum and then pose around and gently get up using only one hand. (and repeat 3 times) I was soo exhausted after the 2nd attempt I started using everything from the wrist to the elbow to the knee to launch myself up. So much for grace.

"You're like an angel..."

Nope. I felt like this fellow here. With artificial wings.

Photobucket

Okay I feel like a gorilla now. Arms all heavy and stuff.. and they are trembling. I salute them ballerinas. Gah. Let's hope I can roll outta bed tomorrow!

PS: My classmates and I are currently planning on giving our profits from our project to charity (undecided). We are still sorting things out...slowly :).

.. yes it's normal. here's proof. :P

October 12, 2008

Here's some sort of build-up to the previous post :)

This my dog, Cooper. Photobucket

Nah I'm just fooling around. He's much bigger now. I wouldn't even let him out of my sight if he were that tiny :P

This is how it works. Cooper first spots a troupe of 6 or 7 baby munkehs playing merry-go-round on to p of my garden table's giant umbrella. They usually arrive at about 5.30 in the afternoon. He barks at them yadi yada, and then decides to join in the fun. Unfortunately, it's impossible for him to get on top of the umbrella so he waits on the grass for the monkeys to come down and start pulling at his tail, stroking his head and sometimes, poking his eyes.

Then, the big fat alpha male monkey arrives. He hates Cooper but my poor little dog doesn't know that. Every swipe, pounce and tackle made by the monkey is treated as a game. -____-' Look below.

Photobucket

Monkey#2 actually has a crooked tail lol.

Danger in the porch. (Reptile-related)

October 11, 2008

Living on top of a hill with a forest as a backyard would generally mean occasional visits from not-so-wild animals like monkeys, monitor lizards, iguanas and such. Monkeys tend to steal food from the kitchen and they don't usually freak me out but THIS..

I found this in the porch not long ago. It ran away because my dog was barking its tail off.

But... it's back again. Brrr.

A Peter Pan Moment.

October 10, 2008

I sent in my entry for the competition!! I modified an object (read below). I'm not hoping to win or anything.. I just want some sort of credit/cert to build up my portfolio.

So...What does Captain Hook fear the most? :P

When You're Offered Seventy Grand.

October 09, 2008

Day One back in college and I was already compelled to join three design competitions. How much more competitive can a class get?!

...And one of them offered a prize of about 75,000 bucks. Can't tell you what it's about though, they made me sign some contract at the end of the brief. I wonder could I have refused to sign it since I was not told about its confidentiality prior to the talk. Hmmm.

You'd think it would be a good enough motivation to start working on the submission right? Nope. I think I'm f*cked up in the head. Maybe I should be made to live in the streets for days with no money in hand and realise what a fool I actually am.

That aside, I'm supposed to promote myself in another competition. We can do ANYTHING we want to impress the judges. I think I'm gonna send them a box of tofu, seriously.

..Nah I've got other ideas in mind.

PS: Happy Belated Birthday TOL!

EDIT: Hold on a second. WHY THE HELL NOT?! FOR CHARITY!

My Big Bad Bruise

October 05, 2008

Okay fine it's not THAT big, nor is it THAT bad either. I didn't realise I got it from this morning's dance class. I mean, I knew I was going to "gracefully place" my knee on the ground throughout the dance so I padded my knee and all that.. but it appeared anyway! Pfft.

Yup.. I was bored.

Stuffed.

October 02, 2008

I was at my friend's (Tasha) house this afternoon for her Raya celebrations. It's fun to experience the celebrations of a Malay family.

Here she is, in an extremely pretty kebaya outfit from Indonesia. :o)

The thing about living in Malaysia is that you will NEVER starve once the festivities start rolling. With so many races throwing open-houses throughout the year, no one can escape over-indulging in the varietie s of food served.

My biggest worry? Going o verboard with the rendang (refer to Sylvia's blog) intake. Brrr. Have that for lunch, go for a movie, down a Caramel Macchiato after that and you know you will have to start swimming daily for the next week to work it off.

....which I probably won't do. Maybe I should fast DURING the celebrations. LOL.

College resumes on Oct 6th. Gah. :(

Now, if I could get the iMac's MSN Messenger to STOP quitting on me.. I will conclude my day in less than 2 hours' time.

Edelweiss.

September 28, 2008

That is my favourite song .<3 The simpler the version, the better.

It's named after Edelweiss- a white flower. I'm guessing that the song was about Austrian patriotism in "The Sound of Music".

But as a clueless kid who watched it every day, I actually thought it was about a toilet bowl.

"Every morning you greet me,

Small and white, clean and bright,

You look happy to meet me."

*shrugs*

Chickens cheer on 4th of May.

September 22, 2008

...or maybe they don't?

Was browsing through some blogs when I stumbled upon a few interesting things.

1. International Respect for Chickens Day. (4th of May, apparently)

Respect the chickens. and optionally, eggs.

2. Maybe some of you might have done this but if you haven't, you're in for a surprise. Stare at the 4 tiny dots in the picture for about say, 30 seconds or so. Then immediately avert your ey es to a plain wall or anything nice, clean and flat. What do you see? :)

Well, I caught the movie "Death Race" this afternoon. It was a little..blah. But a friend of my pointed out something when Jason Statham was flexing his back. His muscles formation resembles an ox's head. Complete with two horns and all. Coolio!

Pulling the pout+frown.

September 19, 2008

I'd actually promised that I wouldn't blog about it but oh what the heck, I just wanna say that I'd stumbled upon something great, something very awesome. it was a line of pure genius! Cheesy but brilliant. That's all I can say. So tempted to use it myself.

Yup, thats it.

Anyway, was forced to sleep outside my room thanks to a roach which was scurrying around the floor. Damned roaches. Go back to WALL.E already.

Okay, a pointless post. I'll talk music in the next blog. :)

Danny for May

September 19, 2008

&

Just got back from the mamak stall (mamak = muslim indian) They serve the cheapest food, ever! Yummy. :D

But anyways, I love to make people smile. It feels really good when someone tells me that I've brighten up their day and stuff like that- consider it a way of making amends for carrying freaking grumpy face 24/7 due to my potentially hazardous sleep patterns.

So, one day, I saw a very beautiful picture of a Danish footballer named Daniel Agger on May's blog. She loves him, I love the picture, there's not a hint of worry on his face, so I thought.. why not? Paint the bloody guy already!

I never considered myself an artist. NEVER. I #39;d first started handling a brush about 4 years ago. I just love to paint but I'm striving to be one. The day I can channel my emotions without a reference, the day I can take control of the colors, the paint, EVERYTHING. Heck, I sometimes feel like a designer without a concept (which is of course, bad).

Here's the painting I dedicated to May. :)

Btw, I think I'll be re-editing this post a couple of times since I don't know how to post a picture properly in this blog. I'm sorry if you have to see some weird ass HTML codes floating around.

The First Page

September 18, 2008

Hello all.

Am very excited to be part of this group. I love blogging, and now, blogging for charity? Like woah, this is really cool. <3 I'd only sent in my information about a minute ago and POOF! The blog's ready. Thanks Cassie and Jade!

Just a brief introduction. My name's PeiRu, I'm a graphic design student who's not the biggest fan of the over-computer-reliant subject and thus, spends most of her time catching up on a good sleep or just detoxifying by painting shits that not many cares about. I was introduced to this site by my good friend, May. We share a love for music and football(soccer).

I'm supporting Autism Speak. It was about a year ago when I was doing a research on autism for Art History, that I learned about a boy named Yeak Ping Lian. He's a local autistic boy who captures pretty much everything with such beautiful lines, strokes and colours to produce AWESOME paintings. Refer to http://www.pinglian.com/.

Now, he may be one of those with the exceedingly rare condition known as Savant Syndrome but after reading much about him and his work, I realised so many things that I've never had before! On how "nature's gifts are precious, fragile and many times, so subtle and taken for granted that it needs 'exposing' to be unearthed and appreciated." There are some who are less fortunate and I want to see help provided to them :)

I'll be posting up some of my work next time. Till then, stay cool y'all.
