Danger in the porch. (Reptile-related)

October 11, 2008

Living on top of a hill with a forest as a backyard would generally mean occasional visits from not-so-wild animals like monkeys, monitor lizards, iguanas and such. Monkeys tend to steal food from the kitchen and they don't usually freak me out but THIS..

I found this in the porch not long ago. It ran away because my dog was barking its tail off.

But... it's back again. Brrr.

Lauren Eberle said: ahhh! i have a completely ridiculous and irrational fear of snakes... my mom thinks it's because growing up in thailand i was constantly used to them being in the pool, our shoes, our house, etc. but everytime i hear the word snake or see one i have to pull my feet up off the ground - don't know why! hahah. so you can't imagine how hard i flipped out when i saw that picture.
Winnie Loo said: try using sulphur to ward them off? my uncle lives in kota kemuning next to this empty meadowlike space and once he found two black snakes in his garden! he told me he put some sulphur along the walls/opening in the walls and the problem was solved.
Winnie Loo said: then again it might possibly be a hazard to your dog...
Meg said: ewww i'd freak out. i am not fond of snakes, unless they're kind of pretty looking and you assure me it's not going to bite my head off hah.
Sylvia Wu said: eeek! snakes freak the shit out of me! & I agreed with Winnie! :)
Caroline said: is it justme, or is it really funny that it's normal to have a monkey in your kitchen stealin your food? lol
YinMay Yap said: snake!! spider and snake freak the hell out of me like nothing else. haha ru, i know what you mean about wild animals. i have that all the time back at home too, plus some wild boars, I never knew they eat veggie until recently. im totally ok with monkeys eating the fruits my parents brought back from the ochard because I think they are cute sitting on the chair peeling the skin off and all, but my parents would chase them away lol.
Catreena. said: snakes! it freaks me out. :O My area where I am living right now, tehre are many monkeys, big and small ones. There was once a huge, fierce monkey (so called orang utan) came in to my house I got freaked out at that time and that monkey took my dad's medicine which is yellow in colour and ate it. O.o. LOL.
YinMay Yap said: LOL, he must've thought that's bananas.
Winnie Loo said: hahaha Caroline - only in Malaysia :P well, it depends, actually.
Pei Ru said: yeah im more worried abt my dog actually. :S eep thailand and snakes.. MUCH bigger snakes. I freak when I see them on TV. caroline.. its QUITE normal here lol. they once stole the plastic fruits displayed in the dining room. they can even open the freezer! im like.. waddafug? now we lock the grills and doors to the kitchen 24/7.
Pei Ru said: haha meg i found a prettier snake last year. it was green and coiled up on the railings at the stairs outside. looks venomous though. sigh.
YinMay Yap said: lol green snakes freak me out the most! something to do with the chinese monster I think. the story about how a venomous snake turns into a beautiful girl and then start killing people.
Winnie Loo said: haha my dog sadly isn't afraid of anything. retrievers -_- if a robber jumps inside she'll greet him with a wagging tail hahah. the downside to having an overly friendly dog.
Cassie Petrey said: Whoa.
Pei Ru said: oh my... an over-friendly dog. Haha!! My dog used to hate this alpha male monkey.. but they are friends now! I'm like.. waddafug? I'll probably post pics later.
Cui Ying said: i was shocked to see a bat lying in my backyard a few years ago, didn't expect will a bat visited my house.
Pei Ru said: bats are EVERYWHERE in my life. they'd be hanging above my head during art class, dead on the chairs during lectures and well.. just lying there in the bath tub. but they are SOOOOO cute. oh and no worries about the visit, it's good luck :P
Pei Ru said: @may: wait, is pumbaa a wild boar or a warthog? or are they the same? they eat bugs right?
