Why is Santa already at the mall?
November 03, 2008
Last Friday at my local shopping conglomerate, I saw an opportunity to visit with Kris Kringle in a yearly tradition that I still participate in*
The thing is, it was Halloween.
Now, last time I checked Christmas comes a full 2 months after this, but what is more disappointing to me is that Christmas has now officially taken over 2 more holidays.
We've all known for awhile that Thanksgiving took a backseat to Christmas after stores began slashing prices for "Black Friday"** and it seems yearly that trees and ornaments, decorations and candy canes and elves and sleds and etc etc have been popping up earlier and earlier.
But alas, now you might as well dress up as Rudolph for Halloween...
*Every year since we've been born, my brother and I have taken a picture with Santa Claus as a gift to our mother. While might not seem out of the ordinary for kids age 0-8 to do this, the past 15 years have been a fun opportunity to make mom happy.
** Even though Black Friday is considered the biggest shopping day of the year and is good for business, it is sad to see that the 2nd biggest shopping day is Dec 26th.
